Upcoming conferences

New Voices in Development: Older People on the Global Agenda: 1 October, Dublin (venue TBC). This conference will celebrate UN International Day of Older Persons and is one of Age Action Ireland’s key contributions to Positive Ageing Week 2010. It will focus on the challenges and the responses of aid agencies in seeking to make older people more visible in policy and practice. Seminar on the Code of Conduct on Images and Messages: 12 October, 10 am – 1 pm (registration and coffee from 9.30 am), VSB, 34 Shaftsbury Square, Belfast, BT2 7DB (Light lunch included).  The Code of Conduct provides a framework to which organisations can refer when designing and implementing their public communication strategy.  It offers a set of guiding principles that can assist organisations in their decision-making about which images and messages to choose in their communication while maintaining full respect for human dignity. Organised by the Centre for Global Education in association with Dóchas, this seminar will: explore how images and messages are used in development; provide an overview of the Dóchas Code of Conduct on Images and Messages; discuss why the Code is important and should be widely adopted; and offer practical suggestions on how the Code can be adopted. Facilitator: Eilish Dillon, Kimmage Development Studies Centre. New Approaches in Preventing Human Trafficking: Integrating the European Knowledge: 16-17 November, The Silken Hotel, Brussels.
