The cross cultural setting of the Programme offers outstanding opportunities for personal and ministerial growth. The programme is process oriented and intellectually challenging. The emphasis is on experiential learning while preparing people for Initial and on-going formation, Leadership, Emerging pastoral needs, Transitions.

The multinational mix of the group adds a unique and enriching element which is celebrated in art, music, dance and cultural activities. The focus in the programme is on the growth of the participant and then on those to whom she or he may be called to minister.

About the Irish Missionary Union PDF Print E-mail

altThe Irish Missionary Union is at the service of our membership in a great variety of ways. Apart from providing an invaluable secretarial service to our members at home and overseas, we also support and facilitate a great deal of mutual sharing and networking of resources and knowledge gained through experience.

Some of the main activities of the IMU are:

    * Communicating relevant information to Missionaries on a range of topics.
    * Assisting Missionaries returning to Ireland.
    * Creating awareness on social and economic Justice issues especially in matters and areas related to Mission.
    * Creating awareness of Mission through fulltime programmes like Mission Alive and Seminars on Mission.
    * Speaking on Justice issues on behalf of the Justice Commission of the IMU.
    * Coordinating joint ventures of the IMU member organisations, such as the Coordinated Parish Promotions Programme.
    * Liaising with Government bodies, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s) and others on issues which are of common interest
    * Facilitating Insurance cover for long and short term Missionaries.

The website links refer to activities and programmes which have evolved from the IMU over the last 25 to 30 years.

On 30 April 2007, The Irish Missionary Union(IMU) as part of Dóchas (Irish Association of NGOs in Development) formally adopted a Code of Conduct on Images and Messages for their public communications.
